How far would you go to help make a friend’s dream come true?

Spencer Zimmerman is a 13 years old amazing boy who is a member of the Boy Scouts of America Grand Canyon Council in Phoenix.

Spencer has a friend called Dayton Hayward who has Cerebral Palsy.

His devotion to his friend last year extended to being Dayton‘s legs in a triathlon! In this amazing race Spencer pulled, pushed and carried Dayton. They swam 500 meters, biked 12 miles and run 3,2 miles.

The Grand Canyon Council presented the 2011 Young American Award to Spencer and I am sure that was absolutely right!

On this video Spencer’s father talks about the happenings in tears. He says that his son asked Dayton if he would like to do the triathlon with him. He explains that Dayton does not communicate, only blinks for yes; and doesn’t blink for no. After Spencer’s question he started blinking!

Dayton’s mother said that Spencer does not want to look like the hero at all! He wants Dayton to look like the hero.

Also see the interview with Dayton’s mother made by Connie Colla here.
